Alien artifacts are strange artifacts somehow associated with the return of the xel'naga.[1]
At least some of these artifacts are of xel'naga origin, and could be considered dangerous, since they can manipulate the minds of terrans.[2] At least some are alive in a sense (once being described as an "energy fossil"). These were sought by roaming Dark Templar.[3]
By 2505, the Terran Dominion was interested in acquiring these artifacts.[4] The Dominion banned trade in "alien goods" in order to control access to them.[5]
Alien artifacts could be found on Mar Sara,[5] Jotun,[1] and Monlyth.[6]
Many are guarded by fanatical protoss which remained behind to guard them after the rest of their kind "bugged out".[6]
