Allen Adham, an Egyptian-American businessman, along with Michael Morhaime and Frank Pearce, was one of three co-founders of Silicon & Synapse which changed its name to the more well-known Blizzard Entertainment.[1]
Biography[]
Adham started programming at 14, making his own games through high school and college.[2] In the 1980s, Adham hung out with a group of friends that included Interplay founder Brian Fargo. He would playtest games for Fargo and eventually program his own games while studying at UCLA.[3] He received his bachelor's degree in 1990 from UCLA.[4] Shortly after graduation, he and Morhaime, as well as others, founded Silicon and Synapse[2] in 1991. After doing a number of ports, he worked on RPM Racing[3]
Adham provided the voice of the dark templar,[5] zealot, dragoon, shuttle, observer, drone, defiler, and devourer, ragnasaur in StarCraft.
Adham left Blizzard in 2004 right after World of Warcraft launched, and started a quantitative hedge fund using computers and artificial intelligence, trading the stock market. Adham has stated that he regretted his decision in 2006, stating that he simply should have taken a year of absence instead, and he started looking to get back into the games industry.[6]
He rejoined Blizzard in 2016.[7] His role is in overseeing new projects within the company.[8] In 2018, he was made part of the company's "executive leadership team."[9] He was laid off in January 2024, as part of a round of layoffs by Microsoft.[10]

- Adham's first videogame was Pong. His favorite game of all time is EverQuest.[6]
- Adham plays games about 4 hours per day— 2 hours on PC/console in the morning, 2 hours on mobile in the evening.[6]
