The Castanar installation was a secret Terran Dominion research facility in the Castanar System. It was disguised as a beryllium storage warehouse. The facility was scan-shielded and defended with numerous defense systems, including sentry guns and A.R.E.S. warbots. The facility also housed experimental plasma and even alien weapons.[1]
History
By the Second Great War, the installation had cloned protoss-zerg hybrids[1] using technology generally beyond terran technology. Arcturus Mengsk planned to "terminate" its staff.[2]

During a raid on Korhal, Raynor's Raiders stumbled upon a science facility[3] containing the location, and access codes for the Castanar installation.[1]
The rebels descended on Castanar, and destroyed the power core when they discovered the hybrid experiment and many other projects. The explosion released a powerful hybrid reaver which began to rampage around the facility, and the Raiders escaped in a captured Hercules dropship.[1]
