"Greetings, commanders. Amon seeks to destroy Ulnar by capturing its celestial locks and allowing their energies to overload. Your objective is to activate all five locks. It will take units from both of your armies to do so. Work together, and prevail."

- Rohana(src)

Celestial Locks are xel'naga devices that allow access to the inside of Ulnar. Five locks are present and need to be activated in order to enter the temple. The locks can be activated or deactivated by moving in proximity to them, but would not respond to cloaked warriors.[1]

The celestial locks regulate the flow of energies within Ulnar. If overloaded, the energies in Ulnar would grow chaotic, eventually causing the entire temple to explode.[2]

History[]

During the End War, the Daelaam arrived at Ulnar seeking to awaken the xel'naga, and sought to activate the celestial locks to gain access to the inner workings of the temple. However, the Tal'darim and Moebius Corps had arrived first and deactivated the locks in an attempt to halt the Daelaam's progress. Daelaam forces eventually secured the locks, allowing Hierarch Artanis to enter Ulnar.[1]

In 2508, the forces of the sector returned to Ulnar in order to enter the Void and slay Amon, but Amon's Forces attempted to overload the celestial locks in order to destroy Ulnar and seal the way. Allied commanders under the supervision of Rohana engaged Amon's Forces at Ulnar and secured the locks.[2]

Game Structure[]

Celestial Locks appear in the Legacy of the Void mission "Temple of Unification." If players move their forces next to the locks without any enemies present, the locks will activate. However, Amon's forces will push to reclaim the locks. Cloaked units cannot capture celestial locks.

In Co-op Missions, celestial locks serve as the primary objective of the map Lock & Load. Unlike "Temple of Unification," member of two armies are required to capture a lock. It takes 30 seconds to capture a lock. If an enemy comes near it the lock will be contested, but progress on the capture will remain until one force secures the lock. Cloaked units (including burrowed units) can also now capture locks. As Amon secures more locks, the temple will begin to overload, the more locks Amon secures, the quicker it will be until the players lose.
