"Greetings, Cerebrate. By now you've realized that I've severed your connection with the Overmind and your renegade brethren. Understand, it's nothing personal. I just can't risk you falling under their influence. You're mine now. Serve me unquestioningly, and I'll let you live."

- Kerrigan greets the Cerebrate(src)

The cerebrate was the player character of StarCraft Episode VI, working as Infested Kerrigan's lieutenant and commander for her Swarms.

Biography

A New Allegiance

The cerebrate was part of Daggoth's Renegade Swarm after the death of the first Overmind. During the Brood War, Infested Kerrigan seized control of the cerebrate by severing its ties to the Second Overmind. She immediately used it to quell the disruption to her Tarsonis hive clusters caused by the Psi Disrupter.[1] Kerrigan secured the aid of Raynor's Raiders and Arcturus Mengsk against the UED Expeditionary Fleet. The cerebrate took control of Braxis zerg liberated by Dominion psi-emitters and used them to destroy the Psi Disrupter.[2] Later, it helped raid the Kel-Morian Combine alongside protoss Praetor Fenix. The Combine's resources were needed for the coming assault on UED-held Korhal. Kerrigan ordered the cerebrate to infest as many command centers as possible.[3]

The Liberation of Korhal

With the Morian resources acquired, Kerrigan was ready to launch her attack on the UED base on Korhal. She entrusted the job of destroy the UED base in Augustgrad to the cerebrate. After a tough fight against the UED and their zerg slaves, Kerrigan's forces were victorious.[4]

Arcturus Mengsk took control of Korhal, and nearby was a protoss base commanded by Praetor Fenix. While Kerrigan's former allies were resting, Kerrigan ordered the cerebrate to turn against them. Samir Duran reported that the brood would have six minutes before any retaliation occurred, prompting the Zerg Swarm to launch a quick, first attack. The protoss and terrans soon fought back, but they were ultimately destroyed, resulting in the deaths of Terran Dominion general Edmund Duke and Praetor Fenix.[5]

The cerebrate led the zerg defense of Kerrigan's main hive cluster at Tarsonis against the UED,[6] oversaw the destruction of Talematros on Shakuras,[7] coordinated the assault on the second Overmind on Char,[8] hunted down the escaped Raszagal and Zeratul,[9] and presided over the final battle of the Brood War.[10]

Aftermath

Following the Brood War, Kerrigan worked with a cerebrate on her advanced infested terran project, with the cerebrate providing her with genetics assistance. Terrans Henderson and Amanda Haley were both (unsuccessful) victims of the project.[11]

Following the Brood War, all the cerebrates have been hunted down and exterminated by Kerrigan's forces; there are none left "as far as we know",[12] as Kerrigan has no use or desire for them.[13]
