Challenges are a tutorial mechanic in StarCraft II.

Blizzard plans on about 10 challenge maps.[1] Each challenge is 5 to 10 minutes long and teaches an aspect of StarCraft II gameplay.[2]

The player would get a score.[3] In addition, players will receive help on why they won or lost a game.[4]

Challenges will be available through battle.net.[5]

For playing a challenge, the winner may win achievements.[2]

Examples

Psionic Assault

Psionic Assault is an advanced micromanagement challenge. With a force of six high templar and nine sentries, the player must stop a horde of zerg, protoss and terran attackers.[6] The difficulty increases as reapers join the fray.[7]

The winner gets a bronze achievement for killing 75 enemies, silver for 150 and 225 for gold.[6]

Harbinger of Death

This expert challenge forces the player to only use hotkeys to issue commands. The player is given a large force of protoss units, and must kill docile terrans and zerg. However, the time limit is short[6] and the player must fight on five fronts.[7]

The player gains one star for every 75 kills (to a maximum of three stars).[7]
