Char Aleph is a space platform in near orbit over Char.
History
The platform was built by the Terran Confederacy to house the few maintenance teams for automated mining sites on Char after the Guild Wars. During the Great War, it was infested by the zerg and used as an orbital nesting site and hatchery.[1]
During the Brood War, Sarah Kerrigan made the platform her base of operations,[2] bringing Matriarch Raszagal there to use as leverage to get Dark Prelate Zeratul to kill the Overmind for her.[3] However, Zeratul circumvented Kerrigan's defenses and rescued Raszagal just as Samir Duran finished relocating Kerrigan's primary hive clusters to the platform.[4]
A Terran Dominion fleet under Emperor Arcturus Mengsk, a protoss armada under Praetor Artanis and the remainder of the United Earth Directorate's expeditionary fleet under Admiral Gerard DuGalle converged on the platform but were all defeated by Kerrigan's forces.[5]
Notes
- Aleph is the reconstructed name of the first letter of the Proto-Canaanite alphabet, and ancestor of the vowel A.
- The space platform appears as a contestable territory in RISK: StarCraft.[6]
- Char Aleph bears striking similarity to the space platform from the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty level "Shatter the Sky," given their prominence and shared status and a nesting site, however there is no confirmed connection between them. The Wings of Liberty strategy guide states that the platform used was in that mission was formerly used by Riksville Mining Operations.[7]
