Chinese is a group of related, but in many cases mutually unintelligible, language varieties, from the Sino-Tibetan language family, originating from East Asia on Earth. It was banned by the United Powers League in the 23rd century when English was imposed as the common language.[1] At least some elements of the language survived to be used in the Koprulu Sector two centuries afterwards, in advertisements for various establishments in Augustgrad.[2] Tattoos of Chinese characters and symbols were also not uncommon.[3]
