Template:Unitbox The Corsair-class space-superiority fighter is a Dark Templar space-faring unit. They are a new, but versatile addition to the Protoss Starfleet.[1] They were created by the Dark Templar as exclusive anti-starfighter units that could defend their larger capital ships.[2] They are exclusive to the StarCraft: Brood War computer game, and not in the original StarCraft game.

Their main attack is a strictly air-to-air neutron flare, a rapidly firing emission beam weapon that builds up a charge alongside two nodes on the two wings of the starfighter. An energy arc then connects both of the fully charged nodes, and a neutron pulse is emitted between the prongs of the Corsair-class starfighter.[2] Although this only deals 5 units of damage per shot, neutron flares take little energy to generate, and the rapid rate of fire makes the Corsair one of the most lethal Protoss air units in the StarCraft: Brood War computer game.

While the Corsair is dangerous against lightly-armored aerial units, heavily armored capital ships such as Carriers and Battlecruisers render its attacks largely ineffectual.

Abilities

Disruption Web

  • Cost: 200 Minerals 200 Vespene gas
  • Researched at: Fleet Beacon
  • Energy Cost: 125
  • Range: 9

The Disruption Web ability can be researched at the Fleet Beacon building for 200 mineral units and 200 Vespene gas units. This allows the Corsair fighter pilots to focus the background psionic energy though their neutron emitter nodes, and cast a web of "psionic static" that prevents both friendly and enemy ground units, including buildings, from attacking inside of its effect.[1] Its magnetic resonance pulls it towards the ground, so it has no effect on air units.[2]

Upgrades

Argus Jewel

Increases maximum Corsair energy by 50.[1]

Corsair Combat Advantages

  • A group of Corsairs is capable of ripping apart lighly-armored stacking enemies such as Mutalisks and Wraiths.
  • Corsairs are very fast.
  • Corsairs can render ground-based static defenses (such as Missile Turrets) useless.

Cosair Combat Disadvantages

  • Corsairs lack the ability to attack ground units, leaving them unable to take full advantage of their Disruption Web ability.
  • Corsairs are not as sturdy as many other air units.
  • Corsairs are ineffective against heavily-armored units like Battlecruisers, in small numbers.
