"A Dark Shrine! Once power is restored it could be of great value to us."

The dark shrine is a protoss structure in StarCraft II.

Overview[]

In the days before the unification between the Nerazim and Khalai, the dark shrine stood as a monument to the independence of Nerazim society. After the unification under the Daelaam, the structure became a training ground of dark templar.

Tal'darim blood hunters utilize a similar dark shrine as a meeting place, though the nature of their meetings are shrouded in mystery. The Ihan-rii dark shrines vent superheated fumes from its top, while its animated stone exterior is near-freezing.[1]

Development[]

The dark shrine was formerly known as the dark obelisk.[3] Its original conception was as a tower structure with defenses superseding that of the planetary fortress. It was later repurposed as a detection tower since design was testing the game with all the detection removed from the normal towers. Then it was cut from the game for a short time until the need for a Dark Templar building was required.[4]

Notes[]

The Galaxy Map Editor contains the Eye of Adun and energy crystal, structures that use the same model as the dark shrine.
