Dark Templar units could not be created in the original StarCraft. They were seen in a zerg mission and given to players as special units at the start of two protoss campaign missions. They had no abilities besides cloaking. Beyond that they were almost identical to their StarCraft: Brood War BW counterparts, with a few exceptions — they move slightly slower, have swapped hit points and shields, no base armor, and have higher base attack in exchange for a lower benefit from weapon upgrades.
Appearances[]
Following the assassination of Zasz by Dark Prelate Zeratul, the zerg became aware of the threat posed by the Dark Templar.
Sarah Kerrigan was tasked with tracking them down and eliminating them, relying on overlords to detect them as they tried to escape and fight back.[1]
Tassadar and other protoss forces rescued Zeratul from imprisonment on Char,[2] bringing them to Aiur, where they participated in the Protoss Civil War. They aided Tassadar's Followers in destroying Khor-shakal.[3]
A band of Dark Templar assisted Zeratul in rescuing Tassadar from Conclave imprisonment, appearing in the midst of combat shortly after Judicator Aldaris had launched his own ambush.[4]
A number of Dark Templar took part in the final battle to destroy the Overmind as well.[5]

This unit is permanently cloaked. They cannot be seen or directly attacked by enemy forces, unless they have detector support.
