David Kim (Kim Tae Hyun) is a former member of Blizzard Entertainment.

Biography[]

Kim played in StarCraft and Warcraft III tournaments, before he was recruited by Relic Entertainment. He worked on the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War series. After StarCraft II was revealed, he applied for a position on the team, and was hired soon afterwards as an associated game balance designer,[2] He was later promoted to senior game designer,[3] beginning his work on the game in 2007.[4] He later became the game's lead multiplayer designer.[5] He formerly held the position of senior game designer[6] He has also worked on Heroes of the Storm hero and map design.[2]

He participated in all four battle reports, winning all four of them.[7][8][9][10]

His team also won the BlizzCon 2009 2 vs 2 exhibition match, where the call of "nerf David Kim" was heard.[11]

He constantly watches esports matches in order to help with game design.[12]

On April 8th, 2017, David Kim announced he would be moving on from StarCraft II to work on other Blizzard Entertainment properties.[13] He began working with Team 3 in January 2017,[1] where he worked on Diablo IV. By December, 2022, Kim had left Blizzard. He is currently the lead designer at Uncapped Games,[14] working on a new RTS named Battle Aces.[15] Kim has stated that working for Blizzard was unlikely to give him the opportunity to make a new RTS "led by my game design ambition, hence why he departed Blizzard to found his own studio.[14]

Trivia[]

Kim has stated that StarCraft II is his favorite game of all time.[16] Alarak is one of his favorite characters in the setting.[17]
