Death shards were objects experimented on by Moebius Corps. According to Moebius Corps staff who knew of them they were "very dead."[1]

Death shards were the original objective of the community made version of the map Part and Parcel, where they served as the map objective that Cal would have to open with his archangel. These were replaced by the Moebius hybrids in the final Co-op Missions version of the map. They are mentioned in an easter egg on the final version of Part and Parcel, where if a player goes to the southeastern corner they can sometimes find two scientists discussing death shards.[1]
