Ed Smith is a board member of the UED Naming Committee, working alongside Mr. Johnson and Ms. Cole. Frustrated with repeatedly being given "mundane assignments" (naming space platforms), things came to a head when it was suggested that the latest platform that came their way be named New Venice, given that it possessed many bridges. Smith opposed this, claiming that it would be degrading and dishonoring a classic, nay a sacred icon of our Earth heritage!, he eventually conceded, not wanting to work through the weekend.
