- Evelyn Yoo to Donny Vermillion(src)
Dr. Evelyn Yoo was a Terran Dominion lead chemist who worked at a revived Project Shadowblade on Tartarus.
Biography[]
Project Shadowblade[]
- Evelyn, reflecting on the revival of Project Shadowblade(src)
Evelyn worked on the planet Tartarus in the utmost secrecy, as the lead chemist who worked on the secretive continuation of Project Shadowblade for Arcturus Mengsk, with her son Jun-Ho Yoo.[1] Eveyln didn't always agree with Mengsk, but did believe in his philosophy of peace through any means necessary. A number of zerg were kept in the facility for training purposes.[2]

Evelyn's (partly false) account of the zerg outbreak
Sometime after the Battle of Adena,[1] the zerg escaped from captivity—Evelyn apparently had a role in the accident. The zerg overran the facilities, moving too fast for Evelyn to activate the spectres to fight them.[2]
Evelyn held up in the refinery until food ran out, then was forced to venture out from the structure. At some point, Jun-Ho was infected by the zerg hyperevolutionary virus, but Evelyn was able to use a serum to slow the infestation.[1] She refused to activate the spectres, given her fear of them. However, she had no way off the planet, as due to the facility's secure nature, extra-planetary communication was restricted, and she didn't have the clearance for it.[2]
Nature of the Beast[]
Evelyn holds Vermillion at gunpoint
A month after the zerg escaped, Evelyn stumbled across Donny Vermillion, who had crashed on the surface following a lead on secret projects of the Arcturus Mengsk regime. Evelyn held him at gunpoint, and demanded he take her and Jun-Ho to a ship. Vermillion stated he had no ship, but she insisted he was lying. Their confrontation was interrupted by a hydralisk attack, and Vermillion pushed Evelyn out of the way to try and escape. The hydralisk pursued Vermillion however, and Evelyn was found by Reigel, who was there at the behest of renegade ghost agent Nova Terra. She brought Evelyn to Nova, who had rescued Vermillion, and Evelyn punched the Vermillion in the face for leaving her to die.

Evelyn and Nova discuss Jun-Ho's condition
Nova questioned Evelyn on the zerg attacks and the jorium refinery. Evelyn claimed that the zerg had invaded the planet. She brokered a deal with the doctor: if Evelyn helped her get to the jorium refinery, she would take her and her son offworld. Nova stated they would make for the refinery at the next dawn. However as they left, Evelyn uneasily spied a sign on the back of a park bench, reading "silence is the price of freedom."[1] That night, Nova and Evelyn discussed jorium while the others slept, when Nova pointed out that Jun-Ho was infested. Evelyn insisted she would do anything she could to protect her son. Nova admired her bravery, but told Evelyn that it was only a matter of time until Jun-Ho turned.

Evelyn opens the doors to the spectre pods
The next day, the group moved on the refinery, with Nova insisting Evelyn, Jun-Ho, and Vermillion follow them. They found a tunnel where the zerg had broken out, and at the end of it found a training facility. Nova tried to get answers from Evelyn when Vermillion blundered into opening a door containing a queen, that blocked their exit. Nova told them to open the door behind them, but Evelyn was reluctant, but realizing the danger of their situation opened the door that allowed them to escape. However, inside the room was a number of spectres sealed in pods.[3]
Nova chastised Evelyn for keeping the spectre project secret from her, as the group barricaded the door from the onslaught of the queen. Vermillion suggested, in an impassioned speech, that they release the spectres against the zerg, much to the ire of Evelyn, who even though she agreed, shouted him down. The queen broke through the door and grabbed Vermillion, but Nova was able to spray the claw with cryo-fluid and free him. Reigel then hacked the facility’s firewall to allow them to communicate with Griffin to land on the top of the refinery.

Evelyn and Nova debate the spectres
While they awaited extraction, Nova insisted on killing the spectres by cutting their life support, which Evelyn and Reigel vehemently objected to, on the grounds that they were human beings, with Evelyn not wanting to see her years of research die. As Reigel and Nova argued, Evelyn slipped out, and Jun-Ho called to her and pointed on the security cameras that the queen was still outside and rallying zerg for an attack on them. Evelyn rushed and warned Nova and Reigel, and Nova ordered the spectres killed. However, Reigel sealed them in a room and released the spectres, betraying Nova. Evelyn was taken aback, and realized that the facility's jorium had hindered Nova's telepathy, hence why she didn't see Reigel's betrayal ahead of time.

Evelyn sacrifices herself to save the others
Nova hacked the security systems, releasing them and chastising Reigel, who stated he would not see her kill human beings who had done nothing wrong. However, the spectres, who were indoctrinated by Arcturus Mengsk, turned on Reigel and knocked him out, stealing the Griffin. The doors to the facility then opened, and zerg flooded in. Evelyn realized that the spectres must have opened the doors, and Nova realized that they'd done so to let the zerg finish the spectres' adversaries off. The trio ran for the roof, though Evelyn commented that they couldn't outrun the zerg Nova, Evelyn and Jun-Ho found Reigel, and Evelyn commented that they had to find a way to slow the zerg down. Nova volunteered, ordering Evelyn to get the others to the roof. Instead, Evelyn grabbed one of Nova's grenades, telling Nova to save her infested son. Evelyn was killed in the explosion, but the blast killed a number of zerg, and sealed the passage behind them.
Wooden grave markers for Evelyn and Jun-Ho, who died saving Donny Vermillion from the spectres, were later erected on Tartarus.[2]
