A fusion reactor is a piece of terran technology used to generate power. The Terran Dominion's top secret Castanar installation was powered by one of these reactors.

When Jim Raynor and his Raiders infiltrated the facility in 2504, they discovered that the Dominion was breeding protoss-zerg hybrids. Determined to stop these experiments, Raynor ordered the facility destroyed. He and his troops proceeded to locate and destroy the installation's fusion reactor, crippling the facility. However, the reactor's destruction also released an indestructible hybrid that went on a rampage, destroying everything in its path.[1]
