Gunship

Gunships are terran vessels once used in conjunction with capital ships (e.g. the battlecruiser) before the development of small, dynamic high-speed fighters (e.g. the Wraith). It was found that the Wraith could deal out a similar amount of damage to capital ships while evading most defensive battery attacks.

Gunships were once terran units in StarCraft, in which they were referred to as "mercenary gunships." During the StarCraft beta, they functioned as ground attack bombers.
