The following article contains information about a StarCraft II unit or structure that was canceled.

The huge queen was a zerg strain evolved from the large queen, which in turn evolved from the queen. It appeared in earlier builds of StarCraft II.[1] The queen no longer morphs.[4]

Game UnitEdit

The huge queen was produced from a morph of the large queen. If the huge queen died, it could be produced again at the hatchery/lair/hive as a huge queen.[2]

In addition to the abilities of its predecessor, the Huge Queen has new abilities.

Many zerg ground units may burrow, become invisible and may be revealed primarily by detectors, and may not move or attack.

Exceptions include:

  • Roach, which may move while burrowed
  • Lurker, which may attack while burrowed
  • Infestor, which may move while burrowed
  • Baneling, which can detonate while burrowed.

Some units can unburrow via autocast, causing them to emerge and attack when an enemy moves into range.

The ability is not smartcast.

The queen tunnels deep underground, surfacing at a friendly target zerg building. The queen can effectively "teleport" underground to a friendly base. This ability can be used only while the queen is on the creep.

The queen used to spawn numerous types of structures upon the creep. Creep does not belong to any one player, which gave the queen the ability to spawn structures upon "enemy" creep in enemy bases.[9] This ability has since been lost.[10]

When the queen created a structure, she was not required on-site like an SCV; rather, she built in much the same way that a probe creates protoss structures.[11]

The queen had base defense duties, including laying eggs that hatched into suicide attackers.[12]

Cut AbilitiesEdit

  • Toxic Creep
    • Ability Cost: 100 Energy Terran SC1[1]
    • This ability enables the queen to "poison" a small area of creep, injuring enemy units over that creep.[13][2]

Notes Edit

The huge queen has been referred to as a "hive matriarch";[14] this is a misnomer.
