The hunter is able to leap up and down cliffs thus giving it mobility. It is also capable of leaping towards its targets thus reducing the damage taken from ranged targets.
Due to how the hunters jump at their targets before exploding, this can lead to an increase in cost efficiency for the banelings, as they will not waste as many explosions. However, since they also seem to prioritize targets one at a time, it can also lead to them being slightly slower at taking out the enemy if all the banelings only focus on one target at a time.
Heart of the Swarm
During Kerrigan's resurgence, Abathur discovered the hunter strain when he exposed the banelings to extreme conditioning. The banelings that survived developed the ability to leap up and down cliffs.
