The zerghydralisk den bears only a passing resemblance to the nests of the once peaceful slothien that the hydralisks evolved from. Containing hydralisk genetics, the structure allows larvae to morph into hydralisks.[1]
The hydralisk den appears in StarCraft II and unlocks the hydralisk. Unlike in StarCraft: Brood War, the Lurker Aspect can no longer be researched here as it no longer exists. In Heart of the Swarm, Lurker Aspect would be replaced with the ability to morph the hydralisk den into the lurker den or impaler den as part of the hydralisk evolution mission in the campaign, with Legacy of the Void seeing the return of the lurker and lurker den to multiplayer.
