The Large Queen was a more advanced version of the queen in StarCraft II.[1] It has since been removed.[4]
The Large Queen was produced from a morph of the queen. If the Large Queen died, it could be produced again at the hatchery/lair/hive as a Large Queen.[2]
Game Unit[]
Queens move slowly except when on the creep due to their Creep Move ability,[2] making "queen-rushing" difficult.[5] Queens are much more powerful in overall combat ability on the creep.[6] Its attack consist of spines launched by the "wings" on its back.
Abilities[]
The Large Queen bore the talents of the queen, in addition to new abilities.
Many zerg ground units may burrow, becoming invisible and revealed primarily by detectors, and may not move or attack while burrowed.
Exceptions include:
- Roach, which may move while burrowed
- Lurker, which may attack while burrowed
- Infestor, which may move while burrowed
- Baneling, which can detonate while burrowed.
Some units can unburrow via autocast, causing them to emerge and attack when an enemy moves into range.
The ability is not smartcast.

The queen tunnels deep underground, surfacing at a friendly target zerg building. The queen can effectively "teleport" underground to a friendly base. This ability can be used only while the queen is on the creep.

- Queens can target a hatchery/lair/hive, instantly producing three morphalisks. When morphalisks mutate into zerg units, there is a production time discount.

Development[]
The queen used to spawn numerous types of structures upon the creep. Creep does not belong to any one player, which gave the queen the ability to spawn structures upon "enemy" creep in enemy bases.[5] This ability has since been lost.[6][9]
When the queen created a structure, she was not required on-site like an SCV; rather, she built in much the same way that a probe creates protoss structures.[10]
The queen had base defense duties, including laying eggs that hatched into suicide attackers.[11]
Notes[]
The large queen has been referred to as a "lair watcher";[12] this is a misnomer.
