The lurker den is a zerg structure in StarCraft II.

While much of the lurker den's structure appears to be bone, the exterior is made of a material much like grooved, thick leather.[1]

Game Structure[]

Heart of the Swarm[]

The lurker den appears as an upgrade of the hydralisk den in the StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm campaign. It is required for the production of lurkers, and is an alternative to the impaler den.[2]

Legacy of the Void[]

The lurker den appears in the multiplayer of Legacy of the Void. It is again required to produce lurkers,[3] but is morphed from a drone rather than a hydralisk den.

Nova Covert Ops[]

Lurker dens also appeared in the Nova Covert Ops campaign. Years after the End War, the Defenders of Man used Dominion ghosts, including Nova Terra, to plant psi-emitters in order to lure feral zerg to Antiga Prime.[4]

Co-op Missions[]

The lurker den and lurker are exclusive to Kerrigan in Co-op Missions, and become available when Kerrigan reaches Level 5. The structure is available in the Lair phase of the game to allow the morphing of lurkers. However one difference with the Versus mode structure is that the co-op lurker den morphs in from a hydralisk den, instead of directly from a drone like in Versus mode currently. Finally, the structure can research an upgrade for the lurker to increase their range once a Hive has been produced, which also requires Kerrigan to be Level 6.

Stetmann can construct a mecha lurker den to allow him to produce and upgrade mecha lurkers.

Development[]

The lurker den was initially set to appear in StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty,[5] but was ultimately pushed back to Heart of the Swarm.

Prior to Patch 4.0, the lurker den was still mutated from a hydralisk den. The "Digging Claws" upgrade was announced.[6]

Patch 4.11 decreased the lurker den build time from 86 seconds to 57 and readded the scrapped Seismic Spines upgrade, increasing the lurker's attack range from 8 to 10 rather than 6 to 9 and taking 57 seconds to research instead of 80. The build time for Adaptive Talons was increased from 54 seconds to 57.
