"Oh no! Those amazing mecha-zerg must have been here the whole time! Raar! I'm in charge! And I'm stupid! It's all my fault but I'll never admit it! Also, I've never heard of snipers, so I stand near windows: the only weak point in this whole building!"

- Egon Stetmann 'faux teeping' for Malain(src)

Malain was a Fourth Ascendant of the Tal'darim under Highlord Alarak.

Biography[]

Sometime during or following the End War, Fourth Ascendant Malain led a team to Bel'Shir in order to harvest its terrazine. In spite of the treaty Alarak had with the Terran Dominion, Malain began to brutally harvest terrazine from the world. Terran scientist Egon Stetmann, who had been stranded on the planet and crazed by terrazine, created Gary and the robotic Mecha Swarm.

However months later, a Terran Dominion force was sent to the planet to evacuate Stetmann, which was engaged by Tal'darim phoenixes. This was reported to Malain, who stated that they would be done before the next day, after which they would purify Bel'Shir to cover up their presence.[1]

The Tal'darim soon had to contend with the approaching Mecha Swarm; Stetmann was able to sense Malain's thoughts, and knew that he'd realized that the mecha zerg had been on Bel'Shir the whole time. That he'd missed their presence, but he'd never admit it. Still, he didn't have to spend long in self-recrimination, as Malain was shot by one of Stetmann's "minions"—a ghost. The round penetrated the nexus's window where Malain was standing, killing him instantly.[2]
