This Tal'darim Mothership was used by the Tal'darim under the command of Executor Nyon.

History[edit | edit source]

Nyon, commander of the mothership

Tal'darim Executor Nyon commanded this ship during the battle between the Tal'darim and Raynor's Raiders at the Sigma Quadrant Worldship, an abandoned xel'naga worldship, in 2504. Jim Raynor and his men, now allied with Valerian Mengsk, sought the final component to the xel'naga device. Having been defeated by Raynor on multiple previous encounters, Nyon personally entered the battle aboard this mothership, determined to protect the final artifact piece at all costs.[1]

Plot branch : Raynor's Raiders destroy the mothership

The Raiders destroyed the mothership, killing Nyon.[1]

After fighting past the Tal'darim forces, the Raiders retrieved the final component.[1]

Cloaking Field

Passively cloaks nearby friendly units and buildings within a range of 5.

Vortex SC2 Icon1.jpg

The mothership creates a Vortex that absorbs nearby units, allied and enemy alike, into it for the duration. The mothership will not be absorbed. When the Vortex ends, all affected units reappear around its location.

Units leaving the Mothership's Vortex are un-targetable and immune to damage for 1.5 seconds.

The area of effect is 2.5.

This ability is removed in Heart of the Swarm.

Wormhole Transit

The mothership can instantly travel to a protoss building.[2] The ability only works on fully constructed buildings.[3][4]

Hotkey T [2]
Cost 25[2] Energy

The mothership projects an aura similar to that of a pylon or deployed warp prism[5] and will summon units to its location using the warp-in animation. This ability does not appear on the game unit's UI board. The mothership can be countered with a large number of battlecruisers, especially focusing Yamato cannons, but care should be taken to avoid its vortex ability.[1]

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • The Tal'darim Mothership is simply referred to as the "mothership" in "Maw of the Void" and has the standard portrait. The name is derived from the map editor.
  • It is possible to complete the mission without destroying the Tal'darim Mothership, but it requires a non-standard approach. If so, the executor's death quote is not given.
