"You cannot ‘repair’ the lives of others from above. Each must find their own path or the struggle is meaningless."

- Nerath(src)

Nerath is a Nerazim phase-smith (or phase-smith equivalent), with a dry and witty sense of humor. She is unusually short for a protoss, and has dusty dark skin.

Biography[]

Nerath's family designed a device that connected to the severed nerve cords of a Nerazim, which allowed them to enhance their connection to the Void while regulating the energies to prevent a void shock. However, sometime after the End War, these devices were stolen by a Khalai phase-smith named Lantharis, who combined them with Purifier technology to create a device that replicated the destroyed Khala. These devices however were hand made and imperfect, and thus would often kill the user. The death of one such user, Eranis, drew attention to the operation.

Nerath set out to personally investigate the theft of the designs, which led her to the laboratory of Phase-smith Karax, where the corpses of Eranis and a Templar named Therun were being studied. After bantering on the topic of stolen designs by the Khalai, Nerath agreed to help Karax in his investigation of the deaths, while she would provide schematics for the original design. Nerath meanwhile hunted down other protoss who had been connected these devices around Aldera, finding one former Khalai Caste member who described a "new temple." Meanwhile, Karax and Talandar reported having found one of the labs, as well as someone who knew one of the victims.

Nerath and Selendis tailed the Khalai Caste, while discussing the difficulties of reuniting the Khalai and the Nerazim, and the culture clash they went through as the Nerazim struggled to acclimate while holding onto their own culture. They were interrupted with their quarry slipped into Lantharis's lab. Nerath ran in, but a security system activated with Selendis tried to enter, creating a force field and necessitated she wait for Karax and Talandar to break it down. Nerath confronted Lantharis, but Lantharis unleashed a torrent of void energy in the room, overwhelming Selendis, Nerath and Karax, and knocking Nerath unconscious. Talandar was able to knock out Lantharis, and bought the stunned Karax time to turn off the energy flow.

Afterwards, Nerath met with Hierarch Artanis, Karax, Selendis and Talandar in Karax's lab, with the imprisoned Lantharis. Artanis discussed with those present the state of their post-Khala society, and the struggles and divisions they now faced. Nerath gave a Nerazim perspective, stating they had survived for generations with no Khala, and found that each had to find their own path, and reflected on the Nerazim when they were first banished from Aiur.

Later on, Nerath joined Selendis for the funeral of Eranis. The two bantered, while one onlooker came to see the funeral rites of the dead protoss, and together they discussed the feeling of emptiness without the deep unity of the Khala. In the end, Nerath promised Selendis she would help in her own way to fight the battles as their society struggled in this new era, and the two finalized the funeral rites, spreading the dust of Eranis's body into the sky.[1]
