Olaf Kraftig is a Terran Dominion viking pilot who flew under Stortand Varg. He is a large and bear-like man, but speaks eloquently.
Biography[]
Olaf served in the defense of Braxis during the Second Great War. He was part of the viking wing sent to distract the invading zerg swarms while the civilians were evacuated. Olaf and his squad landed on the ice outside of the zerg hive cluster, which had tunneled into the cliffside.
The vikings engaged the zerg, and held their own against the oncoming swarm. However, Erik Snabb got overzealous, and shot the snow banks on the cliffside causing an avalanche. The entire squad was buried, and had to fight their way out of the snowdrift. Olaf got stuck, but was freed by Erik, who broke out and used his VTOL rockets to melt the ice around Olaf. Olaf transformed his viking into fighter mode, and sped up.
Unfortunately the last surviving member of their squad, Baleog Grym, was still trapped in the ice, and the zerg were beginning to swarm around them. Olaf and Erik provided a distraction from the zerg while Baelog blasted himself from the avalanche. The three flew away, having successfully delayed the zerg, and flew back to base to drink to fallen comrades.
Notes[]
Olaf is a possible reference to Olaf the Stout from the Blizzard game The Lost Vikings. This coincides with the rest of the viking pilots from the short story, who are also references to The Lost Vikings characters.
