Phase-smiths are protoss engineers that work on the optimization of weapons, armor, and spacefaring ships. The Khalai[1] and Nerazim both use phase-smiths; those of the latter kindred use a different name for their role[2] and are sometimes trained in combat, to the level that they rival the Templar.[3][4] The role of phase-smiths in protoss society date back as far as the Golden Age of Expansion, and they aided in the operation of motherships.[5]

Trivia[]
Early in the development of StarCraft II, the role of phase-smiths were to be taken by a protoss forge master. This protoss would have lighter armor, but wield a psi welder on their wrists, and a helmet that would drop a welder's shield over their eyes.[9]
