Predators, sometimes called "cybercats," are big, heavy robots shaped like cats.
Overview[]
In 2502, some were owned by the Screaming Skulls, and were used in an attempt to kill their former captives, War Pigs members Vin Iggins and Cole Hickson. One knocked Iggins down, but Hickson terminated them with shots from a pistol.[1] Predators were also utilized by the Icehouse for the training of the Dominion Reaper Corps, with predators that were near the size of vulture bikes.[2]
During the Second Great War, Egon Stetmann's research was (theoretically) able to equip predators with an electrical discharge field.[3]
Predators were used in service of the Terran Dominion, and were deployed in the defense of Skygeirr Platform against the Zerg Swarm.[4]
After the End War, several predators were spotted in a Defenders of Man facility in Sharpsburg.[5]
Variants[]
The following section contains information from Heroes of the Storm that is ambiguously canonical.
|
- Predator A-130: Known as the "cyber wolf," this variant of the predator is due for deployment in 2506, expected to replace the first generation of predators. The Dominion takes no responsibility for injuries occurred while trying to ride them.
- Predator A-130G: Known as the "golden cyber wolf," these predators were developed for use on low-orbit platforms. Few prototypes survived initial testing, and are now prized by collectors.
- Predator C-250: known as the "cyber ram," these predators were designed to operate within the harsh conditions of Kel-Morian mining worlds, and were built for durability over speed.[6]
- Predator S-160: Known as the "obsidian cyber wolf," this variant uses prototype neo-carbon materials. Designed for Dominion black ops agents, they are only issues to the best operatives.[7]
Game Unit[]
StarCraft II[]
Unlocks the predator for production.[3]
The predator is equipped with an electrified discharge field. This field activates each time the predator strikes an enemy in combat, doing heavy damage to all nearby enemy units. This makes the predator a devastatingly effective counter to large grounds of enemy units.

Predators are available as a special anti-infantry unit in StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty at the cost of 15 zerg research points and access to the Hercules dropship.[3]
Predators unleash a lightning field AoE burst which deals 20 damage with every attack. While they gain no bonus against any unit type, a handful of them can easily bring down swarms of zerglings or other low health units with their AoE burst attack.
A primary weakness to using predators is that, for their cost, they are not very durable for a melee unit. Also, because they are mechanical units, they cannot be paired with medics or medivac dropships (though they can potentially be paired with the science vessel). Without armor upgrades, predators will die fairly easily against ranged attackers.
Predators are strong against zerglings, banelings, infested terrans, marines, firebats, reapers, hellions, and occasionally zealots and sentries. Unfortunately, they have many counters: marauders, siege tanks, thors, diamondbacks, stalkers, immortals, colossi, roaches, hydralisks, ultralisks, and any air units. This makes the predator an extremely specialized unit.
Abilities[]
The Predator unleashes a deadly field of electricity each time it attacks. Deals 20 damage.
Upgrades[]
- +1 damage for cyclones
- +1 base damage and +1 bonus damage for hellions
- +2 damage for hellbats
- +2 base damage and +1 bonus damage for siege tanks (tank mode)
- +4 base damage and +1 bonus damage for siege tanks (siege mode)
- +3 ground damage,+1/+3 air base damage and +1 bonus damage for thors (AoE/single-target)

Attack upgrades improve attack cooldown of affected units by 5% per level.
These self-replicating ultra capacitors reduce the reload time of weapons and systems. Now each of the weapon upgrades at the armory and engineering bay increases attack speed by 5% in addition to increasing damage.

Armor upgrades increase health of affected units by 5% per level.[8]
We have created a new lightweight alloy called vanadium. Vanadium diffuses weapon impacts much more efficiently than traditional armor plating, and it better preserves the life of our units. Now each of the armor upgrades in the armory and engineering bay increases unit life by 5% in addition to increasing armor.

Damaged mechanical units recover hit points when out of combat, at a rate of 0.6015 each second.[3]
Our ship and vehicle hulls are now made from a material called Regenerative Bio-Steel. This material uses internal nanobots to slowly repair any damage the hull sustains. While this regeneration process is much slower than conventional SCV repairs, it can be the difference between life and death if no SCVs are available.

Development[]
Predators were able to cloak as long as they had energy available to use. In addition, Lightning Field was also known as 'Retribution Field' instead.[9]

Predator variants called cyber wolves were available as mounts in Heroes of the Storm. A promotional golden variant of the cyber wolf was available to players who purchased a Founders Pack. An obsidian variant was added during the game's Machines of War event.
Later a variant named the cyber ram was made available as a mount alongside the Maraudin' Muradin skin.[10]
Trivia[]
In the Heart of the Swarm mission "Infested," there are five predators of different colors(black, blue, yellow, green and red)This is a possible reference to the Voltron anime series.
