A particularly powerful queen (bigger than an ultralisk) defended the Char nydus network beneath the surface of Char. She guarded nests of cocoons in the chambers.^[1]

Biography[]

Plot option : Raynor's Raiders attack the tunnels (A canon)

Main article: Belly of the Beast

Jim Raynor led an expedition to the tunnels, in order to plant explosives into key points and destroy the nydus network on Char. At the last key point, they encountered this queen and were forced to kill her, being too dangerous and powerful to be left alone with the seismic charges.^[1]

Game Unit[]

When this queen appears, its hit points appear in a boss bar. It constantly uses Deep Tunnel to transport itself around the map, enabling it to pop eggs for a time until the player's heroes can catch it.

Abilities[]

Burrow

Many zerg ground units may burrow, becoming invisible and revealed primarily by detectors, and may not move or attack while burrowed.

Exceptions include:

Roach, which may move while burrowed
Lurker, which may attack while burrowed
Infestor, which may move while burrowed
Baneling, which can detonate while burrowed.

Some units can unburrow via autocast, causing them to emerge and attack when an enemy moves into range.

The ability is not smartcast.

Releases a burst of psionic energy radiating outward from the queen, knocking away all units and also inflicts the knockdown condition, stunning enemy units. This ability is only used toward the end of the battle.

Defunct Ability[]

The queen has the basic Transfusion ability, but without energy cannot activate it.

Notes[]

This version of the queen is not a separate unit in the map editor; it is instead simply a modification of the queen in the mission "Belly of the Beast".

This version of the queen, if made playable via the map editor, cannot use its Pop Eggs or Shockwave abilities; they do not appear on the command card. It also cannot use Transfusion as it has no energy meter.
