The rock pillar, also called the collapsible rock tower[1] is a gameplay feature developed for StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm. Destroying a rock pillar can block off a choke point[3] by creating destructible rocks.[1] If a unit or structure ends up underneath the rocks when the pillar is collapsed, it is destroyed no matter its stats (particularly seen on the map Altitude, where there are expansions blocked off by Xel'naga towers that can only be destroyed by collapsing a nearby pillar).
Legacy of the Void[]
Rock pillars, called rock towers, appear in "Unsealing the Past." Destroying them will not create destructible rocks, but rather seal Amon's zerg forces within caves.[4]
