Smartcasting is a micromanagement tool in StarCraft II. When multiple units are given the same spell order, only one of them will comply, preventing a serious waste of spellcaster energy.
List of Smartcast Abilities
Not all unit abilities are subject to smartcasting.
For instance, the Stalker's Blink ability does not use smartcasting. When a group of stalkers are ordered to Blink to an area, all the stalkers will blink.
The following abilities are not smartcast:
- Baneling explosion
- Burrow (most Zerg ground units)
- Blink (Stalker)
- Cloaking (Banshee, Ghost, Wraith, Spectre)
- Defensive Matrix (Battlecruiser)
- Stimpacks (Marine, Marauder)
- Siege Tank transformation
- Viking transformation
The following abilities are smartcast:
- 250mm Cannons (Thor)
- Any production structure building a unit
- Chrono Boost (Nexus)
- Nuke (Ghost and Spectre)
- Force Field (Sentry)
- Graviton Beam (Phoenix)
- Guardian Shield (Sentry)
- Terran Infestation (Infestor)
- Irradiate (Science Vessel)
