The Supreme Being was a creature created by the zerg on Char through the use of the xel'naga artifact, the Argus Stone. It reached maturity within a chrysalis.

Xel'naga lore predicted that a catastrophic war would precede the birth of the legendary being, and only one race would emerge triumphant.

Terran and protoss forces, which had been seeking the Argus Stone, attempted to destroy its chrysalis, but were defeated by zerg forces.[1]

Unbeknownst to the Terran and Protoss forces, the Supreme Being that matured within the chrysalis was Sarah Kerrigan who was captured by the Zerg Swarm. The Overmind sensed Kerrigan's formidable psychic powers and, on one hand, saw a great weapon against the protoss.[2] Kerrigan was placed within a chrysalis and taken to Char. The zerg then used the power of the Argus Stone among other psychic artifacts to transform Kerrigan into a perfect Zerg/Terran hybrid.
