Been awhile since I read Firstborn and Shadow Hunters, but weren't the vat creatures perverted versions of the protoss that Savassan and Temlaa found? How there was one protoss from each tribe wrapped up in vines and courtesy of Ulrezaj, placed in the vats for a different purpose?--Hawki 05:33, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Good point. Something makes me doubt the original Protoss were drained for that, but I'll make a note. Kimera 757 (talk) 11:25, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

I just read Shadow Hunters, and there isn't really any evidence of what they are at all, except they are the same room as the Giant Crystal. Though, the Vat Creatures are or seemed to be alive, while those Protoss were not. It is certainly a possibility. My theory is Ulrezaj used the place to drain Protoss of their 'life force' and used said 'life force' to create these things. Drakolord7 21:29, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

My theory is the same (about the newer Xava'kai, not the Aeon of Strife victims), infusing their energy into the captured zerg. I think the story strongly hinted at that, but it didn't really say it. The article can only really say what we're told. I wrote a "dark hybrid" theory about this on a few forums, but alas, it's currently speculation.
