The Velvet Vultures was a terran rock band based out of Mar Sara. They were a local favorite until their lead singer, Les McMurray "supposedly suffered from death." Two of the band members, Jeff "Stumpy Pete" Cassens and John "John" Bazz, would later go on to form the infamous rock group Big Tuna.[1]

"Revolution Overdrive" states that the band dissolved in the summer of 2036 on Mar Sara, which would predate both the colonization of Mar Sara and the arrival of terrans to the Koprulu sector.
