Raynor's marines secure the artifact

The White Rock Base was located on Mar Sara[1], situated north of Backwater Station and southeast of Mount Jacobs.[2]
The Terran Dominion forcibly shipped citizens there from Backwater Station to dig up an alien artifact. Just prior to the Second Great War, Jim Raynor's marines, with the help of local rebels, attacked the dig site before the artifact could be moved off-world. The deployment of hellions failed to stop them, and the base was destroyed.[1]
Soon afterward, the zerg landed at the abandoned dig site to begin their second invasion of Mar Sara.[3]

White Rock Base was originally referred to simply as "White Rock" in BlizzCon 2008 footage of Wings of Liberty.[2]
In the final version of The Outlaws, the installation is not referred to directly by name, but if the player moves the cursor over the main objective the Dominion base is identified as "White Rock Base."[1]
